Mental Health Awareness
Show Notes
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and this episode is a wider look at what mental illness actually feels like from the inside. We walk through depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, bipolar, postpartum mental health, and eating disorders. Not textbook definitions, just real conversation about what these conditions look like when you're living them. We bust some of the myths that are still doing damage, like the idea that therapy is just venting, that medication changes who you are, or that you have to be in crisis to deserve help. We talk about medical conditions that can mimic mental illness, including anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis, and why it matters to rule those out instead of slapping a psych label on every patient who looks anxious. And we close with what actually helps, what not to say, and how to be the kind of person somebody can turn to. Crisis resources are included in the show notes. If you're struggling, love someone who is, or work in medicine and want to do better by the patients in front of you, this one's for you.
